The live performers:
Catherine Earnshaw and storywheel - Keith Clouston (aka storywheel) is a distinguished composer and musician whose collaborators range from Natacha Atlas to the Royal Shakespeare Company. Catherine Earnshaw is a vocalist struck from the same mould as Shirley Collins. Keith plays the oud while Catherine contributes haunting vocals on a project that melds traditional English folk songs with Middle Eastern music sensibilities.
Jenan Younis - Jenan is a London-based comedian of Palestinian and Iraqi descent whose keenly-observed comedy has been described as a slap in the face - so don't sit within arm’s reach. Culturally inappropriate, politically unacceptable and explosively funny.
Smart, hip comedian - not to be missed - The List
gooseberry - debut performance for the trio formed by Ligeti Quartet founder and violin virtuoso Mandhira de Saram. gooseberry feature Mandhira (violin), Klaus Bru (flute/saxophones/electronics) and Steve Beresford (electronics/objects). Expect a set of improvised music with electronic noises, strange meters and odd tempos from three of the best performers on the UK experimental music scene.
The evening will support five charities/organisations: Reprieve (international human rights), Womankind Worldwide (workers’ rights), FORWARD UK (FGM, child marriage and obstetric fistula in Africa), Labour Behind the Label (supporting garment workers' rights) and Index On Censorship (supporting freedom of expression). Literature from the charities and organisations will be available on the night along with the opportunity to sign up for their various newsletters.
