OK. Ready. Let’s Do It is an online exhibition of free to use, web-based sound and noise-making tools. When Tse Tse Fly Middle East was first founded in the UAE in 2015 our work centred around live experimental music performances and pushing the envelope in bringing sound art to the Middle East region.  Founder members and acolytes used sound and noise in their artistic practise, and we were all continually learning from one another, not just in terms of ideas but in equipment and software disruption too. With this is mind we present OK. Ready. Let’s Do It, a curated collection of web and browser based tools that can be used by anyone to make sound art, noise and experimental music.

Turtle Audio

An audio environment where simple text commands generate lines that can play music. Sounds and rhythms created can be exported as a .WAV file for further editing and mixing.

Check Turtle Audio here >

Picture
Beat Maker

An in-depth drum machine from music composition website Splice. Beats can be exported if you sign up to Splice (for free).

Check Beat Maker here >

Leshy SFMaker

Intended for creating sound effects for computer games, the SFMaker is a retro-style sound effect generator that can be used to make all manner of noises.  Sounds created can be exported as .WAV files.

Check the SFMaker here >

Picture
Patatap

A beautiful-looking interface with sounds and beats triggered by hitting keys and space bar. No ability to export files but output could be recorded via desktop recording software.

Check Patatap here >

Picture
Typatone

From the makers of Patatap, Typatone is more of an excellent time waster than a noise maker but well worth playing around with as text is converted into sounds and music.

Check Typatone here >

Picture
Beep Box

An interface for making instrumentals. There are various sound pre-sets that can be converted into custom sounds, with the ability to build tracks and sequences visually. Sounds created can be exported as .WAV files.

Check Beep Box here >

Picture
Online Tone Generator

It’s not intended to be, but the Online Tone Generator works very well as a virtual theremin. The interface has detailed instructions of how to use it but there’s no ability to export the sounds created.

Check the Tone Generator here >

Picture
Pixel Synth

An amazing interface that generates sounds based on images on the screen; therefore perfect for composing and testing graphic scores. Users can also draw directly on the interface to manipulate the sounds made.

Check Pixel Synth here >

Picture
PulseBoy

Modelled as a Game Boy interface, the PulseBoy is perfect of making low-bit, chip tune type work. In keeping with PulseBoy’s old school styling tracks and sounds can only be exported as .PBP files.

Check PulseBoy here >

Picture
Viktor NV-1

Wonderful early eighties-style synth interface with plenty of preset vintage synth sounds that can be changed and manipulated. Includes the ability to operate via a MIDI interface.

Check Viktor NV-1 here >

Picture
Web Synths

A comprehensive online synthesizer with 136 preset sounds that can all be manipulated. Can be used with a MIDI device. Complicated so needs patience.

Check Web Synths here >

Picture
HTML5 Drum Kit

Charming and very simple drum machine interface using standard percussion sounds from GarageBand.

Check HTML5 Drum Kit here >

Picture
Acid Machine

Amazing online sequencer and drum machine that seems to offer an entire virtual work station. Can be triggered via a MIDI device, and work made can
be recorded and exported as .WAV files.

Check Acid Machine here >

Picture
Drumbit

Basic – and simple to use – drum machine interface. It has just eight percussion presets but includes controls for panning and compressing sounds. Ability to save work but only as as .JSON files.

Check Drumbit here >

Picture
Nsynth

An experimental sound interface that works by blending preset instrument sounds in varying degrees via a slider. Can be played as a piano keyboard using a computer keyboard and works with a MIDI device.

Check Nsynth here >

Picture
Synthe Scheisse

Despite the name, more of a sequencer than a synth, the noises this interface makes go from dubstep to sinister.  It does have the ability to record sequences but there’s no functionality to export as files.

Check Synthe Scheisse here >

Picture
Theremin

Sounding like something created by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960s, this is very simple and very good. No ability to record from the interface, however there’s an app version does have that functionality.

Check the Theremin here >

Picture
Noise Sculptor

A dark-sounding interface that extracts musical notes from source sounds from the BBC sound effect library. Be sure to read the instruction manual before use. Sadly there’s no inbuilt ability to record or extract work.

Check Noise Sculptor here >

Synthi-JS

Synthi-JS is a Javascript take on the mighty EMS Synthi A analogue synthesizer. Start by reading the help section and playing with the patchboard.
